The more of this author's books I read, the more I think The Girl on the Train might have been a one and done for me. I did finish this one, and I can't say I HATED it, but I was also pretty unenthused by it. I didn't really connect with any of the characters, and the story felt fairly disjointed. The ending was solid, but overall I wasn't crazy about this by any means.
Graphic: Body shaming, Bullying, Child abuse, Death, Emotional abuse, Fatphobia, Pedophilia, Physical abuse, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual content, Sexual violence, Toxic relationship, Violence, Murder, Gaslighting, and Toxic friendship
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship, Child death, Drug abuse, Drug use, Grief, Death of parent, and Injury/Injury detail

Contrary to popular opinion, I actually liked this book much better than The Girl on the Train. I think that Paula Hopkins grew as an author and became a better storyteller, and it was evident in Into the Water.
I would’ve finished the book in one night if I could have, I just gobbled it up! It was such a page turner, riveting, I couldn’t get enough. I kept trying to predict who the killer was, and just have changed my mind like 20 times.
I didn’t have much of a problem with the change in perspective, but I think that’s because I basically read it all in one sitting so I hadn’t forgotten the connections. I liked the little guide at the beginning that gave a who’s who.
Sure, there were some questions that I would’ve liked answers to, but sometimes I think it’s nice when things aren’t wrapped up with a bow at the end. Although I would’ve liked a little more justice for some of the characters. I would give this book a 4.5/5 star rating!

Lost interest - struggled to track the characters.

If you’re interested in this title, I recommend not listening it to it at 1.8 speed on audio while driving because there are several perspectives, time/year changes, and no main character. That being said, even though I left highly confused, it was still enjoyable even when I didn’t know what was going on.

This book had excellent pacing. I devoured it. At the end of every chapter you needed to know what was happening so you kept on. I haven’t read a mystery book in a while and this, though a pretty simple concept, was really well developed. She disclosed key details and excellent times and kept you guessing.
