I enjoyed this next book in the Raven's Shadow series. Vaelin returns from his youth abroad, disillusioned by the costly war and despite his desire to settle down, finds himself on a path to yet another war. Nothing new there in terms of a storyline, but Mr. Ryan is a good storyteller. He wrote from 4 different perspectives, 3 old characters from the first book and 1 new one, and did them in such a way that you were interested in all 4 and not plowing through one perspective in hopes of getting back to the "good" one(s). As a second book this is quite good and I'm curious where this series is going. Solid 4 stars.

*Currently reading*

I am currently reading it, but I wanted to go ahead and write a review on the book and see if my view changed by the end.
I have read around 250 pages of the book and overall I think its fairly good. I don't care for an author changing their writing style in a trilogy, this however is what Anthony Ryan has done. To go from the view of Vaelin Al Sorna to the view of 4 characters, into which some feel unimportant (Reva). It is quite a change and certainly is poorly executed at the start. It is from what I have read one of the main complaints I seem to see about it. A *WE WANT MORE VAELIN AL SORNA" type complaint, which I jump on board 100%. However, after the beginning of the book and the confusion of what is going on, it gets interesting. I would love to be able to rate it a 3.5, but a 4 is all I can do. If Reva was taken out of the book then I could give it a solid 4, where I am currently at.

*edit*
In finishing the book I think that it deserves a 3.5 if that was an option, but instead I just gave it a 4 stars. Towards the end of the book it gets pretty good, but it just doesn't stand to the first in the series at all. A shame.

For a long while the structure of characters in different places wasn’t working for me. although I liked some of the individual stories well enough. I thought it was good, it just felt like such a different book than the first one, in terms of plot and major characters, it just wasn’t what I expected. As the pieces started coming together I really enjoyed it more though, and I thought it finished strong.

Slabší 3*

První třetina byla hodně dobrá, bavila mě, rozdělení do více POV jednoznačně schvaluji, dodalo to tomu dynamiku - až do určité chvíle. A úplně zbytečně.

Jo a...
