As a fan of Vox Machina, I am not so much a fan of the ancillary takes on their story. I wasn't a purist of C1 originally but after watching tLoVM and reading VMO - it feels they don't even compare. And I don't say compare by the merit of story-telling being condensed, its more that they just feel forced or trite in avoiding the broader scope of what the Actual Play series achieves.
Its not un-enjoyable to read Vox Machina Origins, but its a weird mess with sometimes strange art, sometimes strange dialogue, sometimes weird pacing and sometimes weird direction. There is commodity to it but I feel no connection to it when reading as most things that occur feel pretty weightless and do not do much justice to encapsulating the story from before we met them on Stream. It feels more like the comics were a passion project in concept, which swiftly turned into an obligation when the type of work it was became realised.
I would recommend for the nature of more time with VM as a cast, and seeing them in comic form is really cool, but as a comic itself it leaves A LOT to be desired.
