bardzo nudne, nie rozumiem za bardzo jak językowy obraz świata ma się mieć do kultury wizualnej. brak esencji.

Really need to learn to read more quickly, but this was great—a good example of the ways in which form and structure in non-fiction can be not just meaningful but affective, expressive. Loved the consistent references throughout which draw relations between Photography and the body, materiality, corporeality. Coming back to this after getting more familiar with Lacan.

the way he talked about his mother. the way he wrote how he wished to enlarge every details of her photograph, by enlarging it, hoping to somehow reach his mother's being. i need to lie down after reading this, i think.

"Look how gloomy they are! nowadays the images are livelier than the people." Even more true now than it was in 1980.

As a photographer I've always wanted to read Barthes and decided to just jump into Camera Lucida... apparently I've been in a French Philosophy/Theory mood lately. The style of Barthes' writing makes this text very accessible and I enjoyed experiencing his journey through understanding photography. In the end I was disappointed because his conclusions are pretty much the complete opposite of my views of photography, and I think that his detachment from the photographic process and his notion of truth are the main reasons for our disagreements. Overall.. didn't love it, didn't hate it, and I will probably read "The Death of the Author" at some point.

I read this for uni and tbh I could've gone without it 😅

This wasn't a horrible read but I've also read better readings on the topic of photography—not a brag, just doing a lot of theory in class ☠️
While topics were addressed and explained, there was also a decent amount of fluff... But still, Camera Lucida is still a good book to know about.
But maybe borrow a copy from the library or sm lol
