This was an okay read. I had a harder time connected to the characters and the story and things just didn't feel realistic/believable for me which just kept me from connecting. This story is short so things happen quickly with our characters and events. The story wasn't bad it just didn't work for me.
I listened to the audiobook and narrator did okay with the characters and accents but nothing that really enhanced and made the story have anything extra.

A fun, quick historical romance novella full of hijinks.

Rowena has run away to elope with a man she thought she loved. But it hasn't turned out as expected and now she's stranded at an inn. James, Viscount Paendly, happens to be pausing at the inn on his way around England dealing with his responsibilities. He's extremely bored with his life and wants some excitement. He offers to get Rowena part of the way home (although she gives him a fake name) in his carriage. But the weather causes delays and shenanigans ensue. And maybe Rowena and James might each be what the other needs.

This is quite a short story, even by novella standards, but it is fun. I enjoyed seeing how feisty Rowena was and learning more about her after her appearances in the previous book in the series, Marooned with a Marquis. I think the short length also harmed this story a bit though. James seems very spoiled and entitled, which he recovers from as he falls in love with Rowena, but we don't get to see that fleshed out as much as I would like. The quick pace also means we miss some of the brooding when they think it won't work for them to be together.

Overall, I do recommend this story, especially if you've read others in this series. It's also a fun, quick book to read in between other longer or more difficult reads. I really look forward to finding out more about Chloe after seeing her for just a moment at the end of this book!

Thank you to Emily EK Murdoch for providing a copy of this book for review. All opinions are my own.

What could be possibly worse for Rowena Kerr than a failed elopement. How can James, Viscount Paendly escaped his bored rigid life. Help comes to both of them when they meet and start their carriage ride. But what of the consequences. How many mistakes can they make.
An enjoyable romance story. A standalone story in this series of books
I received an ARC and the opinions are my own.
