This was the craziest book.
My sister recommended it. It’s about this French woman who is completely obsessed with her husband. And the whole book is literally about how she thinks about him and her interactions with him and what she does for him… And it’s absolutely bonkers. There is a scene where she gets upset that when asked what fruit she is, her husband says she is a clementine. She’s destroyed by it and literally obsesses about that for days, weeks on end. It’s a short book but not once in the entire book does she say his name. She probably refers to him as “my husband” 17,000 times. I don’t know that I could recommend it per se. But it was a wild ride!

I was going to give this 3 stars because I was getting tired of the wife but at one point I had to put the book down and think for a second "what if the husband..." and then it hit me. A twist that probably ruined my life and my whole perception of love but it is what it is I guess.

I relate to the wife in so many ways that it worries me a bit, but I can rest knowing I wouldn't get to certain extremes as she did (unless I let the voices win, of course). This obsession seems so... real. Like it could just happen to anyone if they let themselves go a bit over the edge. It was insane, from beginning to end. I was anxious when she was, I found her questions reasonable, her worries understandable and her twisted view of love completely relatable. This particular book conflicts me a lot, because I do understand how crazy this woman is, how she's constantly on a breaking point that a healthy mind would never comprehend and even though I know most of her actions are wrong, I see myself going somehow to those lengths if something broke my brain the same way hers was at some point did, because even though we don't see much of her upbringings, it shows that somewhere in the middle she just lost it and went on as if nothing happened.

I deeply appreciate finding these weird books that put me on the spot, trying to figure out my own mental state but knowing I can still manage as a regular person and for them to be so short is always a plus. I won't deny I got bored near the end, cause I just had enough craziness for almost 120 pages. I needed it to get somewhere at the end. A bit predictable for someone who was expecting something to happen, but it took me a bit to figure out since I started reading this is the type of book where there's a bunch of nothing going on.
