I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was different and original. The premise is a riff on Quantum Leap, but instead of jumping into the past, Jase needs to heal someone in the present. I liked the charactors and the slow development of their feelings for each other and for Macy.

I would definitely recommend.

It gets points for style and a neat concept, but as a whole there are a lot of things that could have been done better. I couldn't believe that [redacted] being the villain was supposed to be a surprise; it was obvious from almost the beginning! And the big supposed twist was quite obvious, which is always a black mark again any kind of mystery book. I don't WANT to figure it out beforehand. This book also suffered from a serious case of No Kid Talks Like That-itis.

But it was cute, made me laugh out loud at times, and the narrator, Charles Carr, did a great job with the performance; a good voice can make okay writing feel amazing.

Twists and turns, a lot of action, and sympathetic characters made for a compelling story. I liked the narrator though I had a hard time picturing Jase as his voice didn’t seem to fit his description.

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? Yes

New-to-me author and narrator so the book could easily have been eatheir way. But I'm glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Sure the plot wasn't perfect but the story worked for me. I also liked the characters. The first half was kinda giving me the same vibes as The Bones Beneath My Skin by TJ Klune and I was here for it.
Honestly, I love a plot where the MC and LI have to take care of a kid(/kids) and form their own found family. I eat that sh*t with a spoon and is one of the reasons I really enjoyed this book.

I find that in original stories, as opposed to fanfiction, I look more for plot than I do for hot sex scenes. This one has both. I love it when an author can take me by surprise, too. Maybe I'm too easily fooled, but I didn't see this one working out the way it did. Nice touch of the supernatural without going overboard. Good for readers who like m/m with a plot and not too much violence.

I just wasn't able to connect to the story or the characters. I found myself constantly checking to see how much I had left to read.
