This book is DARK. I was prepared going into it but please be aware of how absolutely gut wrenching this book is. Do not read this without checking trigger warnings.

Are we supposed to sympathise with David? I know this is based on the Sylvia Likens case, but every single one of them should've had a worse fate, IRL and in this book.

This also felt reaaaaally slow to get going, and didn't feel like it was just setting the scene or anything. I'm too desensitised to horror for the graphic scenes to bother me, but I'd advise checking out trigger warnings before reading even if you're familiar with the case.

Im giving this 5 stars, not because I liked it, because the subject matter can’t be something anyone would LIKE. The subject matter of this book, being based on a true story, being as horrific as it is will stick with me for a long time. It left me feeling nauseous and defeated but the writing was amazing. The way the author conveyed the depravity and callousness was chilling.

Is you have ANY type of PTSD of basically any kind, I do not recommend this book. INCREDIBLY graphic and horrific and based on a true story.
