Reading this collection of short stories -- which was mostly about relationships and grief at different stages -- made me want to re-read The Pickup, which I think I read in college and would be in a much better position to appreciate now. This collection had some lovely writing, but aside from a few, they didn't really grab me.

4,5⭐️ La prosa di Nadine Gordimer ha una musicalità suadente, ammalia come un incantatore di serpenti e appaga come una coppa di fragole con abbondante panna montata. Una lettura sublime.

A slightly uneven collection, but I liked it enough to try some of the author’s other works. The stories cover a lot of ground—the legacy of Apartheid, love, loss, racism, sexuality, memory, and the inner life of a tapeworm.

Gordimer experiments with syntax and punctuation in a way that I don’t particularly enjoy.
