The most interesting part of this book is the very beginning, where the eeriest event takes place. It seemed like a promising start, but following that first event the book falls flat and the characters are rather bland. The storyline involving the popular trend of Spiritualism during the time period felt like it could have been explained and explored; it was glossed over, as was the cause for the book's mysteries. There were also pages and pages of dialogue between two of the main characters seemingly talking about nothing that did not serve the purpose of furthering the storyline. Throughout most of the book I felt like I was just waiting for something interesting to happen.
