I enjoyed this more than I thought I would since I'm not typically a huge fan of novels-in-verse.

I found the story simple yet beautiful. It handles Macy's deafness and Iris's dementia wonderfully. And it really hit home the concepts of family and one's own story, and how they're connected.

I highly recommend this to all young readers.

"Why do we think
we can know anything about a person
by how they look
what they can do
what life is like for them now?
Because it turns out
we really can't.
The only way to know that stuff
is if someone tells you the story."

"If you love something
you should love it extravagantly.
If you love books,
read a great many books.
If you love to sing
sing loudly and often.
Whatever you do
do it with all your heart."

I needed a short, lighthearted middle grade with a happy ending to tear up to and start the summer with :')
