What a ride! Reading this while watching The Last of Us is a nice coincidence. I'd heard this book mentioned several times on Reading Glasses and was in the mood for some space horror, so I expected this to be a fun read, but wow, didn't expect to love this as much. Y'all know how much I love eating mushrooms but hate mold spores, so the body horror in this book was borderline too much for me, but I'm glad I powered through.

I loved the development of Roz and the rest of the crew, especially how close she got to Misato. Also, who put romance into my space horror? The romance was really touching. And I honestly had no idea how it was going to go till the last page and was preparing myself for all sorts of scenarios but I just have to say that it delivered.

I received an Advanced Review Copy through NetGalley.

This was a fun read. It mixed the atmosphere of The Expanse with the classic science fiction horror styles of Ridley Scott and John Carpenter. The suspenseful nature of the story kept me engaged. Probably the most surprising part was the strength of the character stories that live at the heart of the book, with everyone's separate traumas leading to authentic moments of conflict and reconciliation. The pace was measured throughout—I never felt like it was going too fast or too slow.

Basically, Madeleine Roux makes a strong adult novel debut, using the skills she honed in her various YA series. I'd recommend this to anybody interested in horror-flavored sf, especially those looking for a human narrative that takes priority over the galactic-scale backdrop.

Wanted to love this. Very cool concept and undoubtedly creepy as heck at times! But too slow to get going, hard to hold interest. Could have been much shorter…

I really enjoyed this read. As a Trekker and a horror fan, I can easily appreciate scary in space. 4 stars only because it kinda got wordy halfway through. There were parts I skimmed over to get to the meat.
