Laugh out loud funny, grim and gritty, constant Irish rain - that probably only covers the first page. Another hard to put down story about Sean Duffy's exploits. I enjoyed how he mixed in some real life events from the late 80's too.

It's 1987 and Sean Duffy is up to his usual tricks. Getting involved in crimes that are not as simple as they first appear. He is persistent and works away at the task of finding out who the guilty party is. Not that he every really believes that they will end up in court, things just don't work out that way in Northern Island at that time. Life is not that simple. It's complicated and dangerous and you never know if there will be a tomorrow.

This is another excellent book in the series and I've really enjoyed the read. This is a highly recommend series.

Another solid entry in the DI Sean Duffy series. Not as witty or humorous as some of the previous ones, but an entertaining read, nonetheless.

The fifth in this series finds Sean Duffy, a catholic officer in the 1980's fiercely protestant RUC trying to solve a locked room mystery at carrickfergus castle.
This time the crime spreads to include a delegation of Finnish businessmen, high level child abuse in prison units which has a bizarre encounter with Jimmy Saville.
interestingly there are developments in duffy's personal life and this is a series that continues to satisfy so I am looking forward to book no 6.

My first Sean Duffy novel and not my last. Where have I been I ask myself to not have met this guy in my literary travels. Well Sean, I do apologise and I will now have a Guinness with you and try to put things right.

Belfast during the troubles is a great premise for a crime novel given the heightened sense of doubt and changing loyalties. We all know to some extent what went on but never enough so to revisit it from the inside and see how the police worked during this time really had me hooked.

Sean Duffy is also a guy you would want on your side. He’s funny despite the time and situation, loves his music and talks about it all the time and is an all round good guy. I want to meet the others in earlier books now – Duffy and Crabbie – even their names sound interesting.

I now need to read the other books in the series and hope that book six is not far behind. Really stands out from the crowd this one. Highly recommended!
