In this book, Louis tells a reporter his life story, spanning 200 years. He tells of his life up until the point where he met his maker- the Vampire Lestat. I personally enjoyed the descriptions of New Orleans from ages ago. I've seen several reviews that said the book was not well written, but that was not my impression at all. I enjoyed the writing style and the story. The whole arc with Claudia was a disaster for Louis, Lestat too, but Louis was more personally affected by that situation. The reporter in this story is enamored by the powers and the open world that being a vampire provides. He begs Louis to bring him over, and is determined that if Louis will not, he will track down Lestat. I would like to see a remake of the film with the more up to date special effects. I think it would be a lot better. I watched Queen of the Damned before I ever read any of these books, and I wound up reading Queen of the Damned first. I wish I wouldn't have done that. I would definitely suggest reading the series in order.

Don’t kill me…I preferred Twilight. I preferred Dracula as well. Great book though. Off to find more vampire material.

Great start but I lost interest about 1/2 way through. Second half seemed long and boring.

First time reading an Anne Rice book, and this was a pretty good read. More like 3.5 stars, as I found the beginning to be a little slow and that the sections in Europe dragged, but that things picked up again in the final 80 pages. In general, I think books that are over the 300 page mark really need to earn their length, and I thought that this would have worked better if it was shortened by about 50 pages. But over-all, this is a classic vampire book for a reason: there's depth, lush description (she unsurprisingly nails New Orleans), and emotional/moral stakes. The formula has been imitated by many, unsuccessfully. I think I'd definitely read another Rice novel.

Spoilersee i wouldve given it like 4 or even 5 stars if it weren't for the lovers while also referring to themselves as father daughter thing going on with louis and claudia plus claudia stayed in a SIX YEAR OLDS BODY THE ENTIRE TIME CUS THATS WHEN SHE WAS TURNED? 😭 that was weird as hell
