I didn’t dislike this, but I think I came into it with too much hype. It felt a little unfinished - both overstuffed and slow in parts. I think it falls into the trap of a lot of art within art - the author is (afaik) not a game designer so ends up telling vs showing that the games the characters make are great. But there are some beautiful sequences of gameplay that I wish made up more of the story.

Tomorrow x3 is the story of Sadie Green and Sam Masur. When they meet in the hospital, their mutual love for gaming instantly connects them. But both of their lives really start when they run into each other again in college, and decide to work together on making a game.
Seeing this book all over Bookstagram, as well as countless 2022 favourites lists, I couldn't help but get this book. And I definitely get why this book resonates with so many people. It was not what I expected at all, as for some reason I expected a book set in a video-game world (which unfortunately it isn't (entirely)).
The book is bursting with emotion, even though the writing style doesn't feel overly emotional. The book grapples with complex themes such as love, business relations, grief, contains a cast of complicated and flawed characters, and does an amazing job on video-game world building.
I loved and hated Sadie and Sam, fell for Marx, was absorbed in the story and still am a bit mad that Ichigo and Solution aren't actual games I can play because they sound amazing. I also found it cool that the book is set in the 90s/00s, as this made the gaming-elements feel more relatable to me (as a mid-90s kid I grew up with a GBA and other Nintendo consoles, and I am not at all up-to-date on current games or newer consoles, apart from my Switch).
Ultimately, I did not feel the *wow this book is the best thing I've ever read* that I see everywhere, but I flew through the book, wanted to keep reading and felt a lot during certain parts of the book. Read this if you love gaming, love 90s LA, or just want to read a book that will surprise you.
