Bethany Castle is me and I am Bethany Castle. And we both don't really want to admit it's true. I tagged this as "perfectionist girlies" and I meant it. Bethany is one trough and trough and that's exactly why noone ever thought to come closer and see who was hiding behind that mask of perfectionist â until Wes showed up.
He's really not in this thing for the long haul, he just wants his sister back, so he can stop stepping in for her to care for niece but he quickly gets attached to not only his niece but the first real family and community he's had in his life, people he's become truly close to, and reading that was just so, so beautiful, especially in combo with the epilogue.
Wes is truly the boyfriend all of us perfectionist girlies can only dream of. I'm not going to turn this into my own personal therapy lesson but some of the scenes really had me tearing up.
You know that tweet that's like "the real reason you love enemies to lovers is because you want to believe that someone's who's seen you at your worst could still love you"? That's this book.

Wes' sister was in the foster system like him and he tells Bethany he's sure she had it worse than him due to being a girl. The things done to her are implied to be of sexual nature.ashbreadin's review

I also loved being inside Bethâs head half of the time. To hear how critical âmiss perfectâ was of herself humanized her in a big way for me. And hearing her realize that being less than perfect was OKAY was beautiful.Â
Wes was simply adorable. Tessa Bailey didnât give him a macho attitude like youâd expect from a cowboy but he was just the right amount of cocky and annoying to be endearing. He also didnât call Beth a cringy pet name like âbaby girlâ. Darling (most commonly used) suited me just fine.Â
