"Tell her there are goddesses in her bones
And tales of triumph in her skin.
And that blackness is not a sin."
I really enjoyed and appreciated this collection on the whole. Some of the poems are a bit surface-level/Instagram-poetry vibes, but I still appreciated them for what they are, and many more are poignant and beautifully-written. There are strong themes of self-love, overcoming trauma and adversity, family relationships, existing as a Black woman, and being deserving of softness and beauty and joy. I'd highly recommend this and I'm glad I came across it.

This is such a wonderful poetry book. The way Chisala weaves her words is truly art. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the collection "Maybe we carry our mothers' traumas in our bones, our fathers' grief in the blood," "I don't want to be less of me if that's the only way I'll get more of you," and "your body is not a burial ground for the insecurities of others." This is a book everyone should read.
