The main complaints I’d heard about this is how it was more of a memoir than financial advice book, but as a long time fan of Gabe Dunn, that was not a negative to me lol. Plus, if they’re bad with money, I’m shit with money, so I still learned a lot.

WOW. wow. This was a fantastic book to dip my toes into the muddy waters of finance. Gabby truly scratches the surface and makes money and saving accessible.

Bad with Money is more of a memoir than a financial self-help book. I recommend it if you're really just starting out in financial literacy, but only just--I'd say the recommended age is probably 16-25. It's great for not feeling alone if you are confused, intimidated, or at odds with participating in the capitalist system. However if you're further along in age or your money journey, you probably won't learn much here.

I liked it! I do like Gaby Dunn's "Bad With Money" podcast, and this book seemed like an extended podcast episode with no guests. It is very 101, so someone with a good grasp of basic financial literacy likely will not learn anything. Other reviews mention being disappointed that the book was primarily anecdotes from Dunn's life and the lives of her friends, but I liked the anecdotes! I already love reading Refinery29's Money Diaries series and The Financial Diet's Financial Confessions, so I knew this book would entertain me. I admittedly don't know much about Gaby Dunn, I just listen to her podcast and see her pop up every once in a while on YouTube or TV. It's been fun listening to her learn about money, and frankly, it's also reassuring to know that I'm not totally alone in my confusion about what I assumed were basic financial concepts.

PS RC 22 -A book that takes place during your favorite season (5) (Tax season is my favorite season, what can I say I love numbers)
Bad with Money by Gabby Dunn

This book is a nonfiction look into the author opinions surrounding their upbringing and how it has shaped them and a lot of aggregate information from a ton of sources that I would not necessarily consider reputable. I struggle to view it as a financial book or even a fiction surrounding a character focused on money but instead a biography of someone who is and I mean no offense by this a regular person and not at aware of the book they've written. If you are a super senior (eg 19-ish) and have yet to take out student loans and don't have mental health issues the stories in this book may aggravate I'd say you may enjoy this piece, otherwise it's a pass and it's definitely not something I will be suggesting to friends or future highschool grads. I am for sure not the target audience for this book but the downside of picking a book at random to read means that you won't always end up with a match. I'm sure someone out there loves the book it definitely has a strong voice and cutesy story. As biographical piece it's moderately interesting if a little lacking in self reflection at times and as a financial help book it's not even worth mentioning even as a starter guide to words related to money it just does not pass muster.

Random one star fact : congress of owls, murder of crows, and a muster of peacocks.

A better alternative for this book imo is the Financial Diet by Chelsea Fagan it's got warts but it does a pretty good job.
