I think Courtney Summers isn’t for me. I apparently read Sadie and don’t remember a single thing about it. This read to me like it was trying for literary fiction, trying to say a lot about gender and power dynamics, but it just read like riddles.
The main character is blinded by anger at her mother that she does some pretty stupid stuff. I just can’t with bratty self absorbed teen protagonists anymore.

I was given this ARC by the publisher in return for an honest review. Thank you publisher!!
This was a strange strange book! It was definitely not at all what I was expecting. I have read a few Courtney Summers books (my favorite of course being Sadie) but this was out there for even me. While it kept me captivated and interested, I can’t say that enjoyed it. It starts out as a murder mystery but quickly turns into a nightmare amongst the wealthy. There are a million trigger warnings for this book and deals with some very harsh and uncomfortable topics. You want to like the main character but she is so naive and focuses so much on people thinking she’s beautiful for all the wrong reasons, you end up getting so frustrated and almost hating her. Because it kept me coming back for more I rated it 3/5 stars.

Reading Courtney Summers has piqued my interest in thriller and mystery books. I think she is a really talented writer and I enjoy the bluntness in her style. I'm the Girl was a disappointment. This is marketed as a murder mystery but nothing about it is hard to crack. It is very clear from the first few pages who the villains in this story are. But what we get is a 3oo+ paged story of a main character who is staring the bad guys in the face and choosing to ignore ALL the signs. Georgia is quite literally insufferable as a character. And in my opinion, there's no real explanation for why she is the way she is. She didn't have the best relationship with her mom and that somehow equals thirsting for male attention/validation and putting herself in incredibly dangerous situations. It's really frustrating when you consider her brother who is an active and caring parent in her life, but Georgia is hellbent on fighting him. I guess the main point of this is to illustrate how adults abuse power and groom young girls. But it all lacked depth. Also, I think this story would have the same effect if Georgia was an adult and not sixteen. There were so many scenes that were too hypersexual. It's never not weird when adults write detailed sex scenes involving minors :/
