Getting more background on the beginning of Sara and Jeffrey’s relationship was just what I needed. I love how Karin blended two timelines together seamlessly. Great change of pace.

Definitely glad for the extra Sara and Jeffrey backstory. The present day events were tense and so were the past events! A few moments where it felt like too much was happening but overall a great read.

I am thoroughly enjoying this series so far, and this book was no exception.  Some heavy content for sure but I'm ok with more graphic details and descriptions.

A dual timeline is used to unfold the story, which is a favourite element of mine.  Love the way the pieces weave together between past and present.

2 1/2 - 3 Stars

This installment of the Grant County series left me quite disappointed.

I was anxious to finally read about the early days of Jeffery & Sara's relationship, but the mingled past/present storylines ended up being rather dull. And the inevitable resolution to both stories were more than lacking.

I have a love/hate relationship with Lena throughout this series, and while she had a much smaller role in this book than she has in the previous books, I found myself liking her character more now, while my annoyance with Sara seems to have ratcheted up considerably over the last 2 books.

I guess I missed the usual emotional roller coaster that Slaughter's books usually bring.

(However...considering that I made the mistake of reading the Grant County/Will Trent merged novel [b:Undone|5764902|Undone (Georgia Series, #1)|Karin Slaughter|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1255922434s/5764902.jpg|5936637] before any of the Grant County books, I am already aware of the heartbreaking conclusion to this series.)
