I always scream at books and shows when the good guy let's the bad guy live. You always know they will come back and try to kill you again. That's how I felt when Daemon let Blake live in the last book.

Katy's life has dramatically...or is it traumatically...changed since she has found out that aliens exist. Her boyfriend, Daemon, is an alien from a planet called Lux. He healed her from a near death experience and it mutated her into what they call a human hybrid.

A division of the Department of Defense called the Daedalus are monsters in this series. They keep tabs on the Luxen and the Luxen’s enemy the Arum but they also have been conducting horrible experiments on all of them. They held Daemon's twin brother and his girlfriend captive for over a year. Dawson escaped but they still have Beth.

When a Luxen heals a human, the human not only becomes a hybrid if they survive the mutation but they also become connected. If one dies, so does the other.

Katy agrees to help Dawson get Beth back which means Daemon will help too.

Blake is back. He claims to know where Beth is being held and how to get her out. His best friend, a Luxen named Chris who healed Blake, is also being held there and Blake wants their help getting him out. Nobody trusts Blake but they need his information.

I am really getting into these books. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Oh my goodness. How I have waiting to dig into this book. I requested it not long after I finished Onyx and have been waiting patiently for the library to fill my request so I could find out what happened with Katy and Daemon. As I also read Shadows around the same time that I read this book, it gave me a unique perspective on Dawson and his love for Beth. I was giddy with anticipation as I opened the book and started to read.

When we left off in Onyx, Dawson had just come home after a particularly fearful encounter with the splinter organization of the Department of Defense, Daedalus. Of course, there was to be expected some changes in Dawson's character. He was no longer the happy-go-lucky boy that he once was. He no longer mirrored Dee's thirst for interaction with humans. He was moody, morose, and uneasily quiet. The only time he did speak was in his declaration to free Beth from her captors. This idea was met with resistance, what with Katy's recent entrapment in their facility. Dawson was not to be swayed. The family had to make a choice. Follow and aid Dawson in is task or let him do it on his own and risk losing him again, this time permanently.

A couple of fiends from their past resurface and the Luxens and Katy must decide who they can trust and how to handle the delicate positions these people have in their lives. They can't just run around flashing people with their deadly beams of light without the possibility of consequences resurfacing, right?

As with all the books in the Lux series, there are always consequences for every single action they take. Mostly, their lives consist of trying to hammer out a normal life while keeping their less than human identities a secret and keeping themselves together. We always seem to lose someone important in one fashion or another in each of the Lux series books. Tragedy seems to follow Daemon and Katy no matter what they do.

I absolutely love this series. I have never read anything so unique and awe-inspiring. From the moment I read Obsidian, I knew I would be hooked. Now that I have completed Opal and have to await the release of Origin, I somewhat wish I had waited until the newest book was out before diving into the series. I hate the wait! I am a strong believer in instant gratification, so waiting for a book in one of my favorite alien romance series is sheer torture! What more can I say about Opal besides the obvious praises of it being yet another great installment in the series?

Opal continues the trials and tribulations of a charismatic alien and a introverted quasi-human. It breaks hearts with every page turn and addicts its reader to the a fictitious story that almost seems real. Opal is the third book in a series that everybody should read before the Department of Defense deems it classified material and banishes it to the bowels of Area 51. Hey... who says aliens are all that fictitious?

Overall, I had a really good time reading this book.
The best character in this book for me was without a doubt Damon. I grew to love him. I always thought he was a fun character but now that we saw a little bit more of the person underneath all the sass and smugness, I came to adore him. His lines always make me laugh, swoon or cry.
Katy was alright in this book. I liked her more towards the end, tbh. In the beginning of the book she got a little bit on my nerves with her jealousy. She was just a little bit too whiny for me in that way. But overall, she is still such a strong, loyal and reliable character who I can relate to. I am glad that this Katy I wasn't a fan of did not stay around for long.
Moreover, I do not have a word that perfectly describes how I feel about Katy and Damon. They have the perfect amount of cuteness and sexual tension. I am a huge fan of them and I will root for them till the very end.
Other than that, I really liked where the plot was going, it kept me engaged the whole time, flipping the pages because I desperately wanted to know what happens next. And that ending, I was shocked and then suddenly tears were falling from my eyes and I could not breathe correctly. It was ... unbelievable. To say the least.
I also really enjoyed seeing a bit more of the Luxen group, it is nice to see that everyone gets more depth. I really like all of them, they are such great characters! Overall, I am SO attached to all of the characters. They are my precious babies and I do not want them to get hurt.
The reason why I can not give it 5 stars is because in my opinion this book needed a little bit to pick up, but when it did, I could not stop reading. But something felt off, I was not that addicted as I was while reading the other books. I can not exactly pin point what it was. But still, I can not wait to read Origin which I have on my desk (SO GLAD!)

I just finished Opal but I decided to combine this review with Obsidian and Onyx. I know there are a couple more books in the series but I’ve decided that I’ve had enough.

Let’s start with the relationships (the main relationship in the books is really the only one the author focuses on). I did not like Daemon and Katy’s relationship. I thought it was so toxic and the author never acknowledges that it is bad. She makes it seem like the relationship is okay and healthy. They were always fighting and never actually resolve their arguments.

The writing was quite boring even though it was supposed to be a sci-fi book. The plot was also not very original. I’m a huge fan of Lorien Legacies and that series really shows the potential of a sci-fi series. The Lux series could have been great if there was more of a plot and creativity. I also found a lot of spelling and grammatical errors.

I really have nothing else to say other than I really didn’t like it. It’s not often that I give a bad review or don’t like a book. But it has to be said and I’m sorry if this is one of your favorite book series (no judgment against you, you like what you like). I wish I liked these books more but they really let me down.

Toto mi ulahodilo aj na druhýkrát. Síce to má veľa nedostatkov, fakt veľa, ale nemôžem si pomôcť. Mám túto sériu rada, aj keď presne táto časť....no všetko ide do kytek :D

So this was my reaction when Opal was released a week early....

So I stay up all night reading.....

....Fall more in love with Daemon....

...throw in some heart-stopping action....

...and then I finish the book on a cliffhanger....

Ok, so I have NO idea how I am going to wait months for Origin. The ending had me way off guard and I have yet to process it....

....regardless that my stomach is in my throat and my heart is at my feet, it was another winner from Ms. Armentrout.

Now the impossible wait begins.....
