I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The voice acting and sound design made for a truly immersive experience, and the pacing was strong throughout. I enjoyed the melding of flashback and present storyline. The story beautifully and interestingly shows how complex and tragic Dooku is of a character, and the supporting cast strongly assisted in painting that picture. The story masterfully sets up the board for what is to come down the line after this story in the timeline.

From someone who loved Claudia Gray's Master & Apprentice, I appreciated the cameos of Qui-Gon and Rael Averross, too.

Dooku: Jedi Lost was created by and exists in Disney Wars canon but I decided to give it a shot anyway. I always wanted more information than we got with Dooku still as a Jedi and we had very little on Sifo-Dyas. Dooku’s time with Sifo-Dyas and then with Qui-Gon were the best parts of this production. I loved hearing Dooku’s friendship with Sifo-Diyas and how he really did consider him his friend, even if he did murder him later… I also liked seeing how Yoda was so adamant that the Jedi take a neutral stance and not get involved with things, even when a Force vision of the future comes true right in front of them. It further solidified how the Jedi walked eyes closed to their own downfall.

Ventress’s whole part in this could have been cut, she was completely unnecessary and is only used as a way to learn Dooku’s past, making the narrative pretty clunky. This could have been accomplished in a much better and easier way. Perhaps Dooku is on a mission or coordinating some attack and it leads him to consider his early Jedi days, which then could have been presented in a cleaner order of things. The point of this production is to learn about Dooku’s Jedi days, that’s literally what Cavan Scott said, so let’s not be afraid to have it just about that! I mean the story ends on a ‘defining moment’ for Ventress, because why not?

There were some weird things that were tossed in here for just a moment and then never spoken of again. Like why does some Force-suppressing moss cause Dooku to see events fifty years in the future? That’s a little far away no? And he quickly forgets about them so they don’t get pondered over. And for some reason they had a lot of corrupt and emotionally charged Jedi, breaking the Code left and right. The Jedi’s fault is complacency, not corruption. And if anyone ever found themselves disillusioned with the Order, they were free to step away to find their own path in the galaxy as Dooku did. There was so much Disney-rewriting garbage here. Dooku only has a brother (no sister) and I nearly laughed aloud when it was said that Dooku’s last name was Serenno and the planet was named after his house. Dooku is his last name! It was clear that someone who knew little about Star Wars was in charge of this project and creating these new characters and beings.

As the other reviews have stated, they really made a poor choice in the voice of Dooku, for the guy sounds nothing like Christopher Lee. They literally had Jonathan Davis and Marc Thompson on this, our two big audiobook narrators (voicing Qui-Gon and Yoda), and instead of having one of them voice Dooku, they made that choice.

I was really looking forward to this being a full cast production rather than just an audiobook but I feel it missed the mark of what it could have been. It was more revisiting old memories rather than a full fleshed-out story. I’ve listened to many great radio and audio dramas, including all the EU Star Wars ones, but this just didn’t hit that high caliber. Meh, I don’t know what else to say here, the good parts were good and the bad just pulled the whole thing down, and it turned out there was more bad than good. I won’t listen to this again.
