Violet is an unusual girl with a distinct mechanical bent. Luckily, her parents own a junkyard and so she's easily able to scavenge pieces to build magnificent creations... especially flying machines. If only the kids at school would like her. And then she gets an idea...

I've had to read this 3 times just this week. My 4yo loves looking at the pictures and will already correct me if I misread a word. We've had lots of good discussions too!

Girls in science! Girls maturely handling bullies! Girls saving the day! This book is great for all of those little girls whose passions make them feel like they don't fit in.

Love this one. The only "whine" I have is the fact that I'm looking forward to a time when playing with tools doesn't make a little girl "not like the other girls". Someday!!

Violet is a lovely character. The detailed illustrations of flying machines are fun. The ending leaves a bit to be desired for me, but my 4-year-old daughter can't get enough of this one!

I really enjoyed this book, about taking chances and believing in yourself. Cute ending too!

Listened to Dolly Parton read this as part of her "Goodnight With Dolly" series. I love her soothing voice and how she always sings a little. https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/goodnight-with-dolly/

The story is cute, but kind of wordy...I like it, but it might be a little long for a larger storytime group.

Found this book while hunting at a resale shop. I loved the message and hope every little girl and boy gets to read books like these. Sending it to my friend so she can read it with her toddler.
