If you like Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion, I cannot impress upon you enough how much you should not read this book or Endymion. Stupid retcons that ruin thematic content in Hyperion, weird character arcs, borderline pedophilia, long boring philosophical tracts. One of the worst books I've read in a long time, with a dumb, unearned conclusion.

Although it is better than Endymion, it still suffers from an agonizingly cringey romance plot (I will never hear “kiddo” the same way ever again), an obnoxious protagonist, and from overall missing the atmosphere and depth that made the first two novels the masterpieces they are. Its not the worst thing I’ve ever read, but it is still an immense letdown. The book also wastes multiple opportunities to explore plotlines the first two books left dangling.

A terrible ending to the first three books, as it retcons the previous books in very annoying ways, even more so than Endymion. If you enjoyed Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion, do not read this. I wouldn't recommend it even if you liked Endymion. The more open end of Endymion is a better place to stop.
