Quite tough to listen to, but glad it had a happy ending

Though I really enjoyed this book and all the beautiful and witty prose angelou has to offer, it came at a really bad time in my life. I finished the book halfway in about 2 days before being completely unable to pick it up again (or any of my other hobbies lol) for another three weeks. Good news is, I’m doing better and finished the other half extremely quickly! Goes to show how much of a reading experience is influenced by personal factors rather than purely the work itself. Oh well, I still really liked it despite it all.

Marguerite (Maya) explores themes of poverty, education, and racism in this powerful memoir. Not only is this a beautifully written novel, it also explores powerful themes. As relevant today as it was when it was written.
Warning: graphic child rape scene.

Beautifully written, the word-careful chosenness of a poet. Left with many questions

Really pulls you into her life growing up. One of my favorite writers.
