Did you watch the tv show Heroes? While these books are in some ways very different they give me the same feeling and I am 100% here for it!!

Blood Victory continues the story of Charlotte - this is the third book in the series and I definitely recommend reading them in order. But if it’s been a while and you’re worried you don’t remember the other books enough - don’t worry!! It will all come back to you and Rice does a great job of telling you enough to remind you without feeling like it’s just a straight recap.

In this book Charley is after a serial killer. They’ve figured out how he’s finding his victims and she’s determined to make herself his next prey.

I couldn’t put this down and ended up reading it in a day. This is a series that just keeps drawing me in and always wanting more! I hope there will be many more in the series.

Thank you to Brilliance Audio, Thomas & Mercer and Netgalley for the advance ebook and audiobook copies. I listened and the narration was excellent - this would be a perfect road trip book!!

Third installment in the burning girl series has Charlotte once again on the track of a deranged killer. Can she stop him in time or will she become his next victim?

I love this series so much. It was a page turner from the get-go I get so engrossed I can't stop. I love all the characters their back stories, How each characters story builds up in each book that comes out. These are definitely a page turner, gripping and suspenseful. Can't wait for the next book after this one. In the mean time I'm going to try some of Christopher Rice's other books. I got this as an ARC from netgally.

Visceral. That is probably the singular best word I can think of to describe this book.

Once again, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK WITHOUT READING BONE MUSIC AND BLOOD ECHO FIRST. They are absolutely serial (see what I did there?) and build on each other - you can follow along with the story here easily enough without reading those two first, but major revelations from each are openly discussed here and will thus be major spoilers.

That dispensed with, back to "visceral". I gotta admit, my sense of dread of what Charley is encountering in this book made me walk away from it at several points. I knew I was always coming back, because this was an ARC, but I had to take a break because the dread was just too much. Fortunately Rice resolves those issues rather quickly in most cases, instead spending time seemingly trying to build up just such a level of dread before releasing the tension and moving on. In the back half of the book, we get much more exposition of the motivations of the killers of this mission, and one of the more grisly uses of Charley's super strength we've seen so far.

All told an excellent addition to the series, and one that leaves the reader ready for the next book. Very much recommended.

Great series. Wish there was more Charlotte in this book than there was.
