There is nothing I can say about this book that hasn't been said before, so all I will say is I am so glad that I read this wonderful book!

Very engaging and easy to read. So vivid. Agonizing, sometimes. People are so interesting!!
It is wild to me that, had I read this 10 years ago, I would have thought "wow things were wild back then, can't imagine, how evil people were" and I read it now and I'm like "well, we're back" and it seems horribly applicable.

Angelou manages to combine personal experiences of one child with social commentary very nicely, making it all fit together. Her personality reminded me somehow of Anne Shirley. But, of course, the book dealt with much more serious and lot darker situations and problems.
