The main character is awful, makes it hard to enjoy the ridiculous story: https://blogendorff.com/2017/08/24/book-review-machine-man/amp/

This is such a genius, scary, funny, almost satirical piece of science fiction. Loved it. And it's a happy accident that I just read Frankenstein last month--this is a great follow-on.

In a fit of whimsy, I hereby announce I will give everyone five stars, but the reviews may not reflect it.

This was fun. A little bit of Frankenstein, Six-million dollar man and a Terminator prequel, told from the point of view of an engineer who loses his leg in an accident and decides he likes his mechanical ones better. The story is good, light hearted in tone with a little philosophizing and romance for good measure. Not the finest work you'll find on this subject, but with your time.

Great book ... Loved his previous books, and this one definitely lived up to expectations. Interesting book about the ethics of body augment, as well in some respects the nature of addiction. Can't give to much else away with out revealing spoilers but is definitely on to pick up if you enjoy intelligent sic-fi.

Maybe Max Barry's wit and commentary are no longer my thing or maybe I just don't want to read about this, but it did not work for me.
