Another fine entry in this series. Fast-paced story with lots of nice twists that kept me guessing until the end. Well done!

Alex revisits one of the last cases he handled in Detroit, before being shot in the chest and retiring. Enjoyable, and better than the last one.

Another very good Alex McKnight book. I liked that it occured in the metro Detroit area, which is where I am from.

I’ve had this book for a few years and waited to read it because I love this series so much I couldn’t bear to read the last one! Fortunately, there is another one now, so I indulged, and was reminded how much I love Alex McKnight. There are a few twists that I didn’t see coming, and of course, the characters that I missed were just as endearing as ever. ❤️

Of all the Alex McKnight novels, this was my least favorite. Instead of taking place in McKnight's new home in Paradise, MI, this one spends most of its time in the burnt out shell of Detroit. A large amount of the book is devoted to flashbacks, which I personally don't care for. While I enjoy a good plot twist as much as the next person, the climax of this story is just too far-fetched.
This book was released in 2013. On Steve Hamilton's website these is no mention of another Alex McKnight book in the making. It would be a shame if the Alex McKnight saga ended on such a low note.

It was nice learning more of the back story of Alex McKnight. I was worried about so much of it not taking place in the U.P. of Michigan, but the story held up well, and, being a native Detroiter, I was familiar with most of the places the character went. When he goes to a train yard in Detroit, it brought back memories of my deceased brother, Bob, who was a Detroit Police Sergeant. At one time he worked in a division that investigated robberies from those trains.

I picked this up when I had a gift card, not knowing what it was really about. As I began Steve Hamilton's latest late about former cop turned private investigator, Alex McKnight, I soon realized that I was reading the latest in a series of books about Alex McKnight. However, Hamilton does a good job of not relying on previous story-lines all too much in his telling of the LET IT BURN tale.

This novel is full of twists and turns until the final pages, which makes this a fun read. For the Michigan native (and particularly a native of the Metro Detroit area) the familiarity with the geography adds a lot of fun to an otherwise good tale.

Overall, Hamilton has crafted a good story with many twists and turns. LIke most detective/crime fiction, the tale does fall into some stereotypes and tropes associated with the genre. However, Hamilton does a good job of making the stereotypes and tropes fit well into the larger story.
