[2022 reread]: castle waiting is literally my comfort book, a snuggly blanket that warms the heart thru its lovable, dizzyingly yet effortlessly  diverse cast of characters, adventures, incorporation of fairytales and western fantasy elements, lots of humor and heart, all tied up w/ a msg that embraces community, diversity and the power of stories. the art, while traditional, also fits and drives the story, and the structure and paneling are great. what a gem.

this was absolutely delightful. u know a book is quite sth else entirely when u've been blazing thru books and here comes one that makes u actually linger over each page, reread certain chapters, and force urself to not read too much each day, all bc u dont want the story to ever end.

castle waiting puts an interesting spin on traditional fairytales, fills it w/ wonderful characters, deadpan humor, and great msgs abt identity, community, found family, diversity & feminism that beautifully illustrates the power of storytelling. Although the lineart took some getting used to, the first three chapters were a lil slow-going and story arcs abt the past sometimes overshadow the present-day plot (or lack thereof), this book nevertheless fills me w/ light and warmth, and is one of the most hilarious and subtly moving I've ever read
