I am so in love with this series. Chloe Walsh has found a way to tackle very difficult subject matters and make it palatable for a reader (such as myself). I can not relate to any of the struggles that the characters are dealing with but I feel so much empathy and sympathy for their pain and fears. All the characters have so many differences yet somehow have become a motley crew.As for the Kavanaughs, their love and generosity takes my breath away. I am dying to know Eden’s back story.
I will not be surprised if the series is one day adapted into a movie or mini tv series. It’s so good

Wow.

Read this book when you are in a good place emotionally because it will put you in a bad place emotionally. It is heavy, raw and the hits just keep coming, and coming, and coming. This deals very heavily with Joey’s heroin addiction, caused by a nightmare of domestic abuse and violence, as well as Aoife’s
pregnancy
. I’m sorry if that is a spoiler but literally that is what this whole book is about and if that’s not what you want to read about - no holding back in any way - don’t read this book. The list of content warnings is long and it is explicit.

That being said, Joey Lynch is quite possibly my favorite “book boyfriend” ever. Don’t misunderstand, he would be the worst boyfriend ever (until the end.) However, I was left completely in awe of everything he dealt with, sacrificed, and overcame for his family. Talk about a true hero and a freaking amazing human who was doing the best he could with the crumpled up piece of shit hand he was dealt.
And I understand that staying around for someone like Joey might not be advisable in the “romance” world, but Aoife’s sticking power was an impressive example of unconditional love. She saved his life.

This book is anger, angst, hopelessness, devastation, and just the most raw story of Joey’s sacrifices for his family, his struggle to overcome his trauma/addiction, and Aoife’s refusal to ever give up on him. Theirs is a powerful love.

Chloe Walsh gave us another amazing story. I could hardly put this down. But yeah, if you thought Shannon’s story was heavy…it’s got nothing on Joey.

Right in the feels, the highs were highs (no pun intended) but oh how the lows hurt me on this book.
I was right: I loved that we caught up to the first books timeline and we could interact more with the rest of the cast, but also, I loved following Joey and Aoife more this book than the previous one. It was lovely and heartbreaking to read their story.
A whole 5/5 with all my heart
