Possibly one of the best Batman books I've ever read.

“Taking place during Batman’s early days of crime fighting, The Long Halloween tells the story of a mysterious killer named Holiday, who murders people on holidays, one each month. Working with District Attorney Harvey Dent and Captain James Gordon, Batman races against the calendar as he tries to discover who Holiday is before he claims his next victim each month, while attempting to stop the crime war between two of Gotham City’s most powerful families, Sal Maroni and Carmen Falcone.”

This is also the story of Two-Face, how he went from district attorney Harvey Dent to one of Batman’s rogues gallery. While this isn’t my favourite villain, I do appreciate a good origin story!

What I loved:
  • Tim Sale’s art is top tier!! The covers are so 90’s but the character designs too, favourites were Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Poison Ivy
  • The pact between Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent (also Captain Gordon at this time). Without Jeph Loeb, I doubt we would have Batman Begins.
  • Specifically Harvey Dent’s turn to Two-Face, it makes sense

Honestly I have only one concern, and I wouldn’t even call it “What I hate” because it keeps you guessing but it kinda annoyed me…

  • Each person I suspected as Holiday
Gilda Dent, Alberto, and Harvey Dent
was correct… but tricked me. Again while this isn’t a negative and you should still read, I was confused and trying to figure out how they did it.
  • Honourable mention: Joker’s teeth. Iykyk

Wow. I wish I read this sooner.
A brilliant murder mystery that kept me at the edge of my seat. The ending was satisfying and the art was great & stylish.

Truly a must-read for Batman fans.

the art was very well done because it developed so well with the themes and overall added more feeling and dark undertones to the story(the Joker is pretty terrifying because of his teeth); All the villains are basically people who have gone, in sense, over the edge be it because of greed, lust, obsession, etc.- that’s honestly why it’s so scary because it’s temptations anyone can have every day. It was kind of confusing at some points because you needed a background, but a lot of it came together at the end pretty much

This is really the first graphic novel/ comic I’ve ever gotten into. I definitely enjoyed it.
