I almost gave up on this one, the beginning was so slow and unappealing. But I'm invested in the series now and didn't think skipping a book would be a good idea. I was almost 100 pages in before I was really enjoying myself. David Talbot is not my favorite character. He is creepy and not charming enough for me to see past it. Lestat is hardly in this one. I felt a little lost on some details since I haven't read any of the Wayfair Witches series.

Learning more about the Talamasca was interesting, particularly regarding the mysterious Elders. It was cool to return to Louis' story. Merrick makes a nice addition to the list of characters.

(Forgive how this reads because this was a voice text). I don't think the best of Anne and her writings. I don't think she is bad I just think she is so wordy that it makes the story boring. Also, the characters in this book are terrible. Or at least the main character is terrible.
And the fact that he is in multiple books after this is kind of annoying. He does have problems like inappropriate relationships with younger people despite his geriatric age and in a previous novel, he body jumped into an Indian man who was much younger, and it's very weird because he's British and colonization jumps into my head.

pretty mid book. no one really cares about david theres no need to make him a main character, especially weird how he's pretty much replaced daniel. i did like him for the fact paul mcgann played him until the bit about him being a pedophile in this.. how are we supposed to like him as a protagonist? merrick as a character is an uneducated hybrid of various stereotypes and cultures, she doesnt have much depth to her but at least shes more likeable than rowan. thank god louis is relevant again, totally weird how anne abandoned him. not satisfied by claudia's portrayal either, it's like anne rice wants us to hate all of her characters. honey in the sunshine and cold sandra are the most ridiculous names ever, they sound like steeleye span songs. a fucking witch called Cold Sandra?? COLD SANDRA?? that is so steeleye span its not funny. fuck off Allison Gross.
