This is my first foray into Batman since... boy, probably the very early beginning of the Morrison years. I've completely skipped Snyder & Cappulo's acclaimed run so I was coming into this without any expectation, but very interested to see what Tom King and David Finch had to offer. I was a bit weary about the latter considering I didn't particularly like his style but to my surprise, the art was by far my favorite part of this issue. Finch's style has definitely evolved since I was last exposed to it. I can see a bit of Frank Miller in there and way less early Image influences, all positives in my book.

As far as the writing is concerned, I was less than impressed. I like my super heroes more on the realistic side and let's just say that my disbelief was definitely NOT suspended by the whole "riding a 747 propelled by ejection seat reactors"thing... I would also have like a bit more meat around the bone, especially in an introductory issue like this one. The plot is pretty thin and the big plot reveal comes it at the very last page leaving us waiting for the next issue to know more on those new characters. I'll probably still give this series one more try but after the rebirth issue and now this one leaving me pretty cold, it's on the chopping block.

What a great book. The first thing that really caught my attention was the artwork. Finch did an amazing job, cant wait to see more of his work. The writing by King is awesome. Both did a great job at keeping me into the comic and wanting to know more. Gotham man and girl? Hummm...

I didnt read the annual yet so I think I might do that before I read #2.

to be very honest 4 stars doesn't look like what the book deserve , over the past week King has been saying to the media that his portrayal of batman would represent what Batman and Bruce deserves , well this didn't look anything I would wish for Batman or Bruce to deserve , and lemme say it the art ... well let's just say I have seen countless better art . I think I have probably over rated since the one shot was way bad and this one was the first part with Batman doing batman things with gadget and all . But when you start your run of batman with Batman trying to suicide and say that your batman will get what he deserves well you are losing me there.

Also I am still unsure of the whole Duke thing , I am really not a fan of his never was during Robin Wars either .

Overall I think the plot is still catching on it looks over the top and following the run of Scott Snyder that might just go against Mr Tom King but overall the story looks to be good and I hope those Gotham chumps are sorted out soon coz they look don't fancy my imaginations . The Art could be a lot better but hey it's much better than the oneshot so it's kinda like 3.75 out of 5 stars

Well, that is an interesting ending idea. I like the reactions of the people in the plane. That crazy guy was pretty good.

My fave #1 post-Rebirth so far. Really excited to see where King takes the character and really impressed by the art so far.

Look at my Superman (2016) #1 if you want my explication on the rebirth vs 2016 #1.

Good one, good action, the illustrations are good but nothing spectacular and finally an interesting story but mostly a great ending that really keep you waiting for the next one!

Three stars for Harley's panels, the rest was very disappointing, I wish they had come up with a real special :(
