I have no idea what I think about Bunny. It’s definitely the weirdest thing I’ve read in a long time and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.  For the first 2/3 of the book it reminded me of an updated Mean Girls with the Bunnies reminding me of the Plastics with how they were the In group at school and Samantha wanting to be accepted. I felt like Awad really used this part of the book to explore loneliness and the desire to fit in in academic spaces and what that does to the person not part of the In group. 

It’s the ending that really lost me.

At the end we learn that Ava was actually a swan that Samantha imagined to be a real person and it was still unclear at the end if Max was a real person. I felt the turn to “young woman in an arts program who possibly is suffering from psychosis and then snaps out of it” to ruin the message of the book a bit as it is such a tired plot line. I think it would have worked had those around her tried to get her help but maybe the lack of help was a commentary on how self absorbed academia is
