This book was different than I expected. On the whole, I liked it fine. I thought Khloe and Keenan were going to bicker and be more annoying than they wound up being. I thought the writing was a bit weaker than I was expecting. Either I haven't seen all the writing issues in previous books of this series, or I had forgotten. There were two main conflicts brewing, each affecting either Khloe or Keenan. Since it is a book, I figured there was going to be some way for the two conflicts to entwine, and the entwining was really weak and manufactured. Then there were issues with the supernatural powers that characters have. I will suspend some logic for supernatural fantasy, and forgive a certain level of issue. For instance, this series just sort of gives these demons powers willy-nilly. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for how certain characters have one or two powers, whether the powers relate to one another or not, and other characters seem to have ten supernatural abilities. Characters seem to have powers just to fulfill plotlines, more than for logic. This is annoying, but I can overlook it if the book is entertaining enough. However, this book highlighted harder to ignore issues with particular supernatural powers that played pivotal roles with this story. Enoch (one of the villains) was able to control corpses and have them throw balls of hell fire regardless of how well intact the corpse's arms were, just so long as he going see out of the corpse's eyes. That is not very sensical in and of itself, but it allowed the characters to simply destroy the corpses' eyes to defeat them. It allowed the plot to progress easily enough, without being a complete cakewalk. However, Enoch managed to find a bunch of corpses with eyes still intact. Call me crazy, but corpses that are capable of walking and having well-formed eyeballs have to be pretty fresh, right? The end fight made it seem as though Enoch got all the corpses from a graveyard of a ghost town, so old corpses. Do dead demons retain their soft/wet tissues for a longer period post mortem than humans? Fallacies like this and other weird power issues really distracted from the book's plot.

I love this series. My ratings might not reflect that but that's becuase I hold writers like Wright to a higher standard. My expectations of them is higher becuase they often produce the goods. Here, while I liked the mc's both the romance pacing felt off. He goes from resisting Kloe to insta love. Now I get that they've been circling each other through the previous books in the series but given reading those was a long time ago, this just felt rushed and didn't take me the reader, with it. Still can't wait for the next one.

I was expecting more from this book and Keenan and Khloe's story so it'd be more a 3.7 for me.
