The first time I read this, I really disliked it.

But everyone raves about it, and I thought I might like to give the rest of the series a chance. I hadn't read this in 2 years so it needed a reread. I did the audio this time and it made a big difference I think. I really liked it much much more.

Three things bothered me both times I read it. 1. "her tits bounced when she breathed". No they didn't. 2. "Her bubble butt". That's not a compliment. Quit saying that. 3. The constant description of whatever song is playing. It's distracting and doesn't make a difference to anything.

Otherwise, it's a pretty good book. Lots of sex, lots of murder and gore, lots of stealth and secrets. Is it realistic? Nope. But it's still a good book.

The audio is really good. Aiden Snow is sexy AF as Ryat with his growly voice and Meg Sylvan does a great job as Blakely. I love a great duet narration as well. I'm skipping the audio on the next one because the sample, yikes. The male voice is nasally and not what I'm looking for.

Dark, check trigger warnings, but really good smut. Also a lot of twist and turn plot moments, which I love

I’m not sure I really get the hype on this one. There was literally no character development and I found Ryat and Blakey both flat and one dimensional. Most of the plot revolves around fitting sex scenes in.

Also docking a full star for the near constant references to specific songs. It’s just rude of an author to assume their readers have the same taste in music and will know all their references.

It seems the next book is the most popular and the smut was admittedly fantastic, so I might give the series one more shot, but so far I’m not impressed.
