Set in the beautiful streets of New Orleans, Blood Debts starts by pushing readers in the middle of a magical medical malpractice that pits the right and left wing of government officials against each other. The story then leads us to a set of twins who we follow for the duration of the story. Terry J. Benton-walker highlights th struggles between family through tragedy and grievances, while implementing magical elements rooted in Black spirituality. This story continued to build and pull readers closer up until th last pages. I can NOT wait to get my hands on the second book.

I understand why many people didn’t loooove this first book in this series, but what I will say is that there are so many important topics that more people need to read. The representation in this book is wonderful. It was easy to fall in love with the twins and just cheering them on the whole time.

I will say with some of the sexual scenes I would consider this more New Adult than YA-so just remember that before giving it to your kids.

Overall, I really enjoyed all of the back to back drama in this book, the symbolism, the messaging.

This book brought the DRAMA. If you are messy and love tea and feuds - you will enjoy this. I loved these characters so much!
And I will never forgive the author for killing my favorite! That shit hurted!
I think this would do so well as a TV franchise a la TVD multiverse.

Modern day magic and family secrets. Multiple POV’s and characters that really make you think. I couldn’t put it down once I started and read the 2nd installment as soon as it became available at my library. Eagerly waiting for the 3rd
