Who knew being nonchalant could be a crime.

Felt second hand frustration when the lawyer was manipulating a narrative and main character couldnt / doesn't say anything

The book is around 117 pages but it packs a lot of topics and philosophy for such a short read. I would consider one of the best reads of this just for the reason of reading something which is entirely unique in its character and the perspective, I was introduced to through ''Meursault''. This book needs re-reads to pick and understand perspectives not picked on the first read through.

I read this book as part of a book club with my philosophy professor, and I have to say that is the best possible way to consume this book. I enjoy reading a lot and tend to gain much from the books I read, but I was able to understand the context and depth of this story better by discussing it with a true expert on Camus's perspectives. This story is a true deep dive into the ramifications of absurdism and utter disconnect from the people around you.

Paperback.

While reading, I was reminded of Salvador Dali's "The Persistence of Memory." Reading this book was to enter the mind of a nihilist. Camus wrote a story about the "absurd" reality we live in through the lens of a man so trapped in his own immediate experience that he is unable to take hold of his life in anything more than a day at a time. His relationships with others were purely carnal and conditional. The story was at all times, surreal and artistically beautiful to read, but morally hopeless. I enjoyed the moments of macabre hilarity amidst life's most tragic and irredeemable points - a murder trial.

I would recommend because it is short and, regardless of its moral hopelessness, it is well-written even as a translation.
