Could not really understand the MC's motivations for his actions. Although I do understand that the autho  seeks to include elements of absurdism and existentialism in hos text, making the main character take a man's life for no rhyme or reason seems rather bizarre. Expected something a bit different. A person does not have to be an apathetic murderer (that too for no reason) to be the exemplar of such isms. His personality was rather peculiar, and he took accountability for almost none of his actions.

I liked the story and writing style, but HATED the way he wrote about women so much it totally offed me off the book. I find the main character kind of annoying the same way I find Kerouac annoying. Seems like the kind of guy that wants everyone to KNOW how nonchalant and unbothered he is.

There’s a scene when he’s in trial and a witness woman comes in the room. The first thing he says is a description of her breasts and lips. I absolutely hated that.

Camus is an absurdist. This is a short-form introduction (especially the last few chapters) into the meaningless and meaningfulness of life. It may be something that I read again, at a later point in my own life. The writing is good, and touches on emotional detachment well, while still being engaging. It's a classic for a reason, and it presents rather lofty philosophical ideas in a very digestible and interesting way. I would recommend this book. It doesn't take long to read and is thought provoking.
