It's the wallflowers and spinsters you have to watch out for!

Helena Montgomery is determined to earn money for her and her siblings, so she joins a group of her closest friends on their escapades to rob coaches. But once she meets Sebastian, an earl, Helena's plans become more complicated.I adored Helena: she was resilient and loving and did everything she could to support her family.

I found Sebastian a bit dull compared to her, but I appreciated how devoted he was to her. The Lawless Ladies were also great, and I would love to read more about them — there are already several potential heroes in the series! The climax and resolution of the story occurred too quickly for my liking; however, I was glad that Sebastian recognized his privilege throughout the story.

Overall, this was an enjoyable romance with a creative premise.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.  This review was originally posted on Storied Conversation

Spinster Sister, by Elise Marion. I enjoyed reading the plot of the story. The writer did great with applying a interesting plot to this romantic love story. The writer provided great descriptions to many different details of the story. These descriptions helped me the reader to have somewhat of an imagination to what was happening in the book. The was a page turner for me.
I think with the writers great ability of providing an entertaining story helped with this. Helena and Sebastian I really liked reading their story. The constant back and forth between the two certainly did heated moments behind closed doors.

Elise was a new author for me and I chose the book for its plot: I love wallflowers and spinsters finding their true love. Well, I wasn’t disappointed at all! I loved this book from the very beginning and it made me laugh and cry as well, keeping me entertained till the end.
Helena is a wonderful woman who finds herself in dire straits after the death of both her parents. She has two younger siblings and has to care for them as well. So she resorts to extreme measures: she creates a band of highwaymen, or “highwaywomen”, together with her dearest friends, who are equally in need of money, to rob rich people who can spare a pound or two. The group of women is tightly knit and I loved their friendship very much. They are like five musketeers who protect each other and care for each other very much. What Helena did not anticipated was finding her true love... She was resigned to being a spinster!
Sebastian is looking for a bride, but he isn’t looking for love. He’s practical, stoic, stern and arrogant, but with a reason: he had to erase the legacy of his father’s sins (a drunkard, gambler and womanizer) and restore the good name of his family and the family finances. But when he meets Helena, he falls head over heels for her. Pity that she holds this big secret...
I totally recommend this book and I look forward to the stories of the other women of the band, as well as Derek’s (Sebastian’s best friends) and the Bow Runner who is set to capture the band of delightful bandits...
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

So, I initially requested this book because the cover features a larger woman on the cover which I thought was gorgeous! However, while I get that the main character, Helena, is supposed to be a bigger woman, sometimes her descriptions don’t coincide with it. She is described as the same height as her sister who is lithe, but she “outweighs her by a stone”. This was a time where it was obvious the author is American. One stone is only 14 pounds. How is she supposed to be totally full-figured, voluptuous, bigger woman, but only weighs about 15 pounds more??

There were also some instances of grammar and formatting that appeared in the book (or at least the epub version I have). For example:

Chapter 7: “Bloody hell,” he muttered under her breath – obviously should be “she” not “he”.
Chapter 8: On the one hand, he suppose he had no one to blame for himself – the phrase is usually ‘no one to blame BUT themselves’
Chapter 13: Used the word “goal” instead of “gaol” for prison.
Chapter 13: “Harriet, there are matters that, it’s complicated.” – in this instance I think the author is meaning to use some dashes instead or even ellipses (“Harriet, there are matters that... it’s complicated.”)

Beyond the small mistakes and formatting, I really liked the story. I love a plus-size heroine and the diversity of characters as well (including POC is often left out of historical romance even for the friends and side characters! I hope Mina gets her story too!). The pacing was good, the plot was exciting, I just wish there had been a bit more clean-up before reading!

Loved it! I have a soft spot for spinster romance, and even better if she is a witty and loveable character such as Helena. Tne Band of Brigands is also great, loved the interaction and how each lady has her own problems but each of them relies on each other to help. Harriet was on point as the clever young sister and helped out her older sister gain love the most adorable way. Sebastian was not so bad, I loved the fact that he was such a pompous brute-boar and that the couple always got on their nerves. But there were also those moments where they connected and were able to talk like civilized people. The twist at the end was well delivered and the angst kept me on my toes.

I truly enjoyed this historical romance. Helena is a fighter and is doing what needs to be done to keep her family. She's been looked over by society because she doesn't fit. However, she has a plan and she's brave enough to make it happen.
Sebastian is privileged and looking for a wife. He sets his eyes on Helena's sister but soon realizes Helena is made for him.

They have a lot of differences but love can make it work or can it.
I loved the love story between Sebastian and Helena. A classic historical romance. The sex is also AMAZING!
I am down for the ride. I will be reading the rest of this series.
