The writing was not clear and the story seemed all over the place. I could not get into the story.

I ended up DNF ing it. I may go back at some point but I struggled to get into it.

Overall a fun fantasy heist with dragons and some romance, but be warned there's not that much dragon content for a book with "dragon" in the name.

I think this would have been stronger if it were less creative with the POVs. I think the Everen/Arcady stories were fine, but I was pretty uninterested in Sorin's story. It was ultimately relevant, but usually felt like an afterthought to the main plotline. Second person narration for Everen was certainly a choice, and it doesn't seem like there is enough reasoning for it to justify how awkward second person is. I can think of a couple books that do it well, but this isn't one of them.

This book is trying to do something interesting with gender and pronouns, and that's a plus for me, but it's not explored enough to make it very interesting, nor did it feel natural (or consistent enough) to just be a cool queernorm world.

I'll probably read the next book.

I didn't love it, but I'm intrigued enough to pick up the next book. I got to around 80 pages before I picked up on what some of the terms meant. Loved the chapter when everen gets drunk with the intent of staying for one drink. Who knew I needed to read about a drunk dragon?
The book is written with different pov, and the chapters are not too long, so you don't have to wait ages to get back to your preferred one.
I think the book sets up the world building and characters' motivations well ready for the rest of the trilogy.

This was a dragon book like no other. It is definitely more dragon-shifter type versus dragon rider. But there is so much lore and world-building packed into this book and I loved that. I loved reading from Arcady’s and Everen's perspectives. I could not get into Sorrin much, but as Sorrin feels like someone who will play a larger role in the sequel, I can appreciate the story arc that is beginning here. The bond and conflict between Arcady and Everen kept me flipping through this book quickly.

Thank you to @DAWBooks for my #gifted paperback copy! I loved the book so much I ended up with 2 other editions also! All thoughts are my own.

I love this dragon book 😭 So close to 5 stars and I’m hoping book 2 will be. I LOVE these characters and this world. The idea of dragons being separated by a tear between worlds is so fun and cool. I love a dragon/human bond. I love the found family aspects. This is another good one for lovers of Six of Crows. Band of misfits become thieves and a dysfunctional family. I am SO excited to have a villain(??) to point at by the end of this and feral for that story to expand in the next book. This was so lovely at times, sweet, real, emotional, but also action packed, witty, and funny. I am a BIG FAN 🤩
