Good read

I liked the chemistry between Sarah and Dante. Both from different worlds and intellect but drawn together. Sarah's past comes to haunt her in her new life in Amesport which throws a little thrill and suspense into this steamy romance. Worth reading.

No Ordinary Billionaire (The Sinclairs #1)
by J.S. Scott (Goodreads Author)

Dante Sinclair never cared about his family’s money. All the young billionaire ever wanted was to be a cop; and now that he’s a homicide detective in Los Angeles, he’s a damn good one. But when he is injured and loses his partner in the line of duty, he returns to his vacation home in Amesport, Maine, to recover.

Sarah Baxter, a brilliant young doctor still struggling with her stifled upbringing, has recently moved from Chicago to sleepy Amesport to escape her past, hoping to find peace. When Sarah is assigned to Dante’s case, there’s an instant heat between them. They couldn’t possibly be more different, yet their igniting passion is impossible to ignore. As new feelings awaken within Sarah, her haunted past returns, threatening her once again. But can Dante overcome his grief and discover the secrets Sarah is hiding in time to protect and rescue her

Audio borrowed via KU. It’s like the author couldn’t decide whether this was suspense, romance, erotica, childhood trauma, or Billionaire. The problem is that none of them are pulled off particularly well. Yes, there’s a lot of sex, but it’s ruined by a failure to expand vocabulary beyond “f***”. (I have absolutely no issue with the f-word, I’m only *** it because Amazon/Audible kick reviews out with it spelled out). But when that’s the only word in Dante’s vernacular it lacks depth. It doesn’t actually come off as sexy.

There’s also a LOT of repetition, both in the internal dialogue and in descriptions. Sarah’s always lamenting her childhood, but without variety. Two different times Sarah wears a dress and except for the color it is described almost identically. Also, the internal dialogue doesn’t match what the characters tell each other. Dante talks of wanting Sarah in a way he’s never wanted anyone else, yet he keeps saying he doesn’t have to go back to CA.

I guess Dante is supposed to be “alpha”, but he comes off more as controlling and disrespectful rather than protective.

Dante’s horrible childhood and Sarah’s mom’s weird parenting are mentioned a few times but aren’t really fleshed out in a meaningful way.

The suspense part is created through a stalker after Sarah. Unfortunately it just sort of drops in and out of the story at about 40% and then as a “big scene” at about 65%. Monologue info dumps ruin any real story depth. The actual “action” is kind of predictable and cheesy.

I think the narrator brought a LOT to this production and I’m not sure I would have finished it if I was just reading it. Tolerable as a free borrow, but not the kind of story I’d spend a credit on or want to listen to more than once.

The book was okay, but I feel like it was too much erotica and not enough of the story. When I downloaded this book, I didn't realize it was going to be that sexual, and I feel like a lot of it took away from the story.

Dante Sinclair is one of the Sinclair siblings with a home in a cosy little seaside town.
After Dante partner dies in the line of duty he's on sick leave for injuries he sustained with protecting his partner.
Dante meets his doctors a instantly knows he's going to do everything to get Sarah into his bed.
Sarah has secret and serious insecurities. Dante gives her a taste of a loving relationship and security of a bad ass LA homicide detective.
This story has a lot more to story and intense. Very steamy and sexy scenes.
Action and serious tense violent scenes with Sarah when her past catches up with her.
So far my favourite. Looking forward to Jared getting his HEA.

the story was okay. So far, the Sinclair series seems kind of redundant. It follows the same kind of formula. I feel a little cheated

Dante Sinclair is dealing with injuries delivered in a shoot out with a serial killer, but what is hurting him more is knowing that his partner died and he didn't. The Sinclair family has rallied to help Dante, including his recently married brother, Grady, who is flying Dante back from Los Angeles to the Sinclair family compound in Amesport, Maine to recover. When Dante arrives, he meets Dr. Sarah Baxter, his new doctor who quickly determines that along with his other injuries, he is suffering from survivor's guilt. Dante and Sarah discover an immediate attraction, but Dante isn't the only one dealing with issues from the past. The difference is that Sarah's may have followed her to Maine.

No Ordinary Billionaire is based on an excellent premise with lots of promising story beats, but it never lives up to its promise. Insta-lust, info dumping, and simplistic solutions take up a great deal of this book, while several sex scenes fill the remainder of the pages. If this had been a longer book, it might have been more satisfying, but overall, No Ordinary Billionaire is a very disappointing story.

Dante is sexy! He's grieving though and is really hurting. Sarah is a genius Dr who is recovering herself, from what you'll have to read the book :) I think they were perfectly matched and this book kept me on my toes! A Little bit of danger livens up the book!

I enjoyed getting to know Dante and Sarah in another wonderfully written book by J.S. Scott. Again, I would recommend any book from her and this one does not disappoint. Highly recommended!!
