I read this to my daughter, piecemeal style, nightly. Some of the girls in the book were saintly and some were down right naughty, and I LOOOOVED it. No person is perfect and portraying women as some pseudo deity will only make it impossible for our girls to achieve success. I wish that the stories were longer than one page each, but given the target audience, I understand the length. I can't wait to get the second version of the book and give my kid even more venues of career and choices. Great job!

The stories are oversimplified, but the book features a nice roster of incredible women. Suitable for very young audience.

Reason why this is the most crowdsourced funded project- there is a demand and this delivers. The lack of children's books where women are driving their own destiny led to this book sharing true stories. Whilst it is a children's illustrated book sharing 100 women role models over a diverse set of occupations - explorer, pirate, computer science engineer, politician, chef making sure you have a field in mind and there is a role model to look upto. The book was an eye opener for me too reading about names I hadn't heard before and their impact in their domains. like I had no clue the famous Egyptian Hatshepsut was a woman. Indians who make it in this volume are Rani Laxmibai and Mary Kom. Sure many more volumes will showcase more great personalities (Sri Lankan Sirimavo Bandarnaike was an omission I was surprised about.) Not just girls, this is a good book for all kids to be aware of some of the brilliant humans (gender agnostic) who have made a difference to the world.

The challenge with one page bios of such personalities is that you can never get the complete picture in that and hence it becomes more important to make sure you capture the essence. THe greatest architect is famous for throwing tantrums at the airport! not the wonderful impact she created in architecture. Some bios feel super lazy where a wiki entry probably adds more character and you aren't moved/inspired by the individual. The illustrations are well done and surely will keep the interest of the kids as they march on through the book.

I love the idea, but the writing leaves something to be desired. Rejected Princesses set a high bar that is hard to match.

¡Fantástico!
Lo que más me ha gustado, además de la iniciativa en sí, es la combinación del estilo artístico de todas las ilustradoras. Realza la importancia de la diversidad y las sinergias que se forman.

Nicely done. I wish this had been around when I was a kid.

Features examples from throughout history and from cultures and countries all around the globe. Also features numerous women who were told, either explicitly or via societal pressure, that they couldn't do it -- couldn't follow their passions, couldn't be what they wanted to be.

As a previous reviewer noted, and was offended by, not all of the women featured are necessarily 'proper role models'. That's great! This is not an etiquette book or a primer on how to lead a sheltered life. These women are pirates and spies, doctors and athletes, politicians and dancers, students and community leaders, musicians and astronauts. And it's amazing.

Would give it four stars for personal enjoyment (and, frankly, it is *really* well put together), but if I had read this when I was younger I would probably have given it five stars and loved it to death. So I'm tipping the hat to my younger self and boosting the score a bit.

This is such a fantastic book, and I am so glad I decided to read it. Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls is a book designed through Kickstarter that tells the stories of 100 amazing women throughout history for kids. The writing is accessible yet informative, and the stories are short enough that they’re not overwhelming, but long enough that you still get a sense of who that person was. I don’t have any kids yet (and probably won’t for quite a few years) but this is a book that I will keep for them, because it’s the exact kind of thing you want to be able to read to your child. For both boys and girls it is inspiring - for girls, it shows them that they can do absolutely anything, despite the norms of society; and for boys, it shows them from an early age that men and women are equal, and that strict gender narratives are just that - narratives! I also love the fact that the book showcases such a wide variety of women in so many different careers - from tattoo artists to astronauts to pirates to politicians, it encourages kids to do whatever they want. I love all the messages it delivers, and think it’s an amazing concept.

Tykkäsin kovasti kirjasta, mutta jotain jäi uupumaan 5 tähdestä. Olisin kaivannut hiukan pidempiä tekstejä jokaisesta henkilöstä, sillä mielestäni saavutukset jäivät joissain tapauksissa hiukan laimeiksi. Suosittelen vahvasti silti kirjaa, varsinkin nuorille ja lapsille!
