Reread* (Nov 22)

I loved the world building and I loved all the characters. And even though this was my second time reading this, I still fell in love with this book.

This was actually my second time reading this book, because to be honest I didn't remember much of anything about it the first time I read it, oops. I did really enjoy it though, and I enjoyed it the second time through as well! I love the Italian setting and culture in this book - it made me SO HUNGRY!! Lmao! The world in this book is so atmospheric and magical. I really enjoyed the stories of the Wicked (princes of hell!) and the magic of the Strega (witches), and the entire magic system itself. There's something enchanting about it that just draws you in.

I also love our main character, Emilia. She's super fierce and doesn't flinch when things get tough. Her love for her sister is the driving point of this book - she does anything and everything she has to do to further her search for her sister's killer. Speaking of that, I enjoyed the mystery aspect, too! I love a good mystery/thriller and seeing pieces of a mystery slowly fall into place.

I'm not usually one for dark, dangerous, and broody bad boys, but I loved Wrath too! In this book that really worked for me. Ya'll know that the enemies to lovers trope is my FAVE, and this one really worked for me! I usually hate the bad boy trope because the romance in those books border on abusive, but this one isn't like that. Even though Wrath is a Prince of Hell, and obviously dangerous, he was always respectful with Emilia. The romance was nice and steamy with that slow burn that I love so much! I'm not usually a fan of romance, but this one really worked for me.

Okay, so I have suspicions.
SpoilerThe first time through, I felt like Wrath wasn't actually Wrath, but Pride himself. This time I still feel like there's something there, but a couple of scenes wouldn't really make sense if he was actually Pride (i.e. when she releases him from the binding circle by naming him as Wrath). I feel like there's a revelation lurking just under the surface.

I'm interested to see where things go in book 2!

I waited for years until this series was finished to pick it up. I devoured 80% of the book in one day!
The book has its intrigues set right from the get go. Epic covers, mesmerizing map and the very first page. All black and beckoning! To say that i am utterly confused by the ending of this book would be an understatement. I am blanked out by that anticlimactic ending.

But i digress. I loved how the main lead has a head on top of her shoulders! Distrustful and defiant! Those are qualities that have been missing from badass main leads in all the books i have read! Wrath was and has been an epitome of mystery throughout this book. He seems like a typical anti hero but its hard for one to put a finger on whats going on! Is he after her heart or her soul ? I am pretty sure i figured out who steals the heart and who captures the soul its all so twisted. I need to go through the series to understand exactly whats happening! So is wrath gone for good? Is she going to marry pride now? Soo many questions.
