So here's the thing. The plot is exciting and engaging. Action packed Infact and I have always loved John Jackson Miller's writing. However it fails to be amazing because i don't think it's personal enough. There's too much jumping around. The passage of time eliminates a lot of potential intimacy for the characters. I find myself wanting to care and learn more about the mind of Connolly or Kormagan even but we simply don't get enough time with them it's all so fast paced. Almost like he took what could be an entire season of Trek and turned it into a highlight reel. IT'S A DAMN GOOD HIGHLIGHT REEL THOUGH.

I really enjoyed this read. As a lifelong Trekker, I've always been curious about Pike's tenure as captain. Bringing Pike into ST:DISC offered a delicious taste of the captain's history. This book, set during ST:DISC season 1 gave even more deliciousness. I definitely want more Pike/Spock/Number One novels.

Solid sci-fi affair with a positive message thats deeply appropriate for the Star Trek connoisseur.

Not an action thriller - more a mystery with light philosophical elements.

Always great to see Pike, Una & Spock in action. Star Trek is in safe hands.

This book was everything I wanted and more!! The book offered short chapters and lots of action. With different points of views about the events, make it better.

So basically the book explains where the Enterprise was during the war with Klingons. Exploring a nebula is a bit more dangerous when there are armies and “pirates” in there as well.

In classic Star Trek style, there was action, new technology, and new aliens. While reading the book I could not help but imagine Pike and Spock from Season 2 of Discovery. It was so good.

Overall if you love Star Trek or even just space adventures and action this book is for you. It was released just a few days before I started reading. I read along with the book as well as the audiobook at the same time.

This book was certainly different then what I expected. I figured it would be a story that took place over many different locations and deal with a variety of different issues and problems but it really focused on one main storyline. I know some have said it was slow but it felt like a quick read for me. I haven’t watched season 2 of discovery just know bits and pieces about it but I never felt lost in this book.
