I really like when books feel like nothing has happened, and then all of the sudden a bombshell drops and you realize stuff has been happening the whole time! This felt like… like Liane Moriarty meets Agatha Christie. I was left with some loose ends (who the actual f was Jackie Marsh? Did she ever get her passport back?), but mostly felt like the author gave appropriate closure and answers, without spoon feeding it to the reader.

Finished this in two days and really loved it. I see how the structure is super hit or miss, but for me it was a definite hit. It's a nice mix of mysteries that you can easily solve/guess at while reading and answers that only get revealed to you at the end. The book takes such an intricate look at a weird little community and so many of the emails made me chuckle out loud because people's behaviour was so absurd - but in a totally realistic way. Very well crafted and very entertaining!

the device of being told through correspondence and as a sideline through text messages was interesting enough to keep be from DNF-ing this one. i’ll call it the most boring book to keep my attention.

Genuinely one of the most genius books I've ever read. Un-put-downable to the point of interfering with work.
