Holy Moly. I can NOT explain how much this FM is making me feel seen. Sheās got trama. Sheās got just all the things that make me feel included. I love this book it has amazing representation for todays women. I love Jess. I love her writing and I love that she isnāt just writing everyone perfect. Itās just so easy to step into Gwyns character. Iāve never been one to enjoy stalker romances but the way itās written is AMAZING. I CANT WAIT TO SEE THE FUTURE OF THIS WORLD! As always be sure to read TW but please go read this book. Youāll Fall for Roman super hard without taking attention away from Gwyn.

If youāre tempted to DNF this book, DONT. PLEASE DONT. Because thereās a plot twist in this that will have you fucking SCREAMING into your pillow at midnight like I did.
Also thereās smut and itās very hot.

That ending! Damn. I really enjoyed this book! It kept me guessing throughout. There are a few things that irked me - the writing was overboard descriptive at times and the world building was essentially nonexistent. Iām hoping some weak points get cleared up in book 2. Overall, it was a good story! Also love a relatable FMC - both in size and in mindset. A lot of things she said or thought really hit home for me.
Bring on book 2!

Ā This really did not work for me.
Thereās a major twist that happens at the 95% mark that seemingly comes out of nowhere. For me, this twist felt really cheap and not properly set up at all.
But this book clearly was designed around this twist, and I found the vast majority of what came before it to be either incomprehensible or just plain boring. Both main characters I found very uninteresting and I didnāt feel any chemistry between them. In fact, all I could think for most of this book is how awful they are together and how tedious all their obnoxious back and forth became. This book couldāve been edited down 30% without any major plot points changing.
Iāve enjoyed this authorās previous books well enough so Iām surprised this one fell so flat for me.
edit:
now that i've thought about it more, I think this book would have been much better if it was shorter and told exclusively from Roman's POV. it would have made the question of if he should trust Gwyn much more interesting to ponder and to try to catch clues if she's lying or not.
instead, we are given about 50/50 POV of both main characters, and Gwyn's POV just doesn't fucking make sense. For a girl who apparently has a master plan and is lying her ass off in every scene, we are given almost none of her real thoughts (despite this being a first person POV, which I feel personaly gives more weight to internalized character thoughts). Intead, we get a ton of pages of off-topic rambling, nonstop comments on how hot Roman is and how attracted she is to him. I just don't believe it at all. it's why the twist in the end felt very unearned. There are zero clues throughout the book that Gwyn is lying her ass off, despite the fact that we spend half the book literally in her head. It's kind of a let down because a twist of this type could be super cool if you pull it off correctly, but the execution here was poor.
Also, this book has a real problem with pacing of dialogue. I had to go back multiple pages multiple times because character 1 will ask character 2 a question, and character 2 spends the next paragraphs or multiple pages in meandering tangents before they finally answer the question from multiple pages ago.

Thank you so much to Jess Wisecup for providing me with a free copy of āFeathers from the Sky (The Hunting Vengeance Duet #1)ā in exchange for an honest review. All of the following opinions are formulated on my own. Any quotes in this review should be cross-referenced with the final copy for any possible edits.
Overall rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Favorite quote(s): "She doesn't have you blocked?"
"Not on my burner account."
"You think that doesn't go both ways, Gwyn? I promise you, you're more dangerous to me than I am to you."
My review: Feathers from the Sky is one of those books that you read for the first time and the moment you finish, you feel the overwhelming urge to restart it again because the plot will be completely different given what you know now. Feathers from the Sky follows Gwyn, a disconnected human mourning the death of her parents. When Gwyn uncoincidentally meets Roman, a vampire at a matchmaking photoshoot, her life takes a turn towards danger as Roman forces her to help find out who killed his brother. Roman must fight his desires as his father demands Gwyn's heart in order for Roman to leave the coven.
Y'ALL!!!! Jess has multiple big mic drop moments in this book. I don't mean end of the chapter gasp moments, I mean CHUCK THIS BOOK ACROSS THE ROOM, SCREAM, AND PICK IT BACK UP. One of my favorite writing styles is when you read a book and can reread it with a new clarity. There are so many loveable characters in this book, especially the main characters who also have a dark side. Put this on your TBR. AT THE TOP!!!!
Will I finish the series? Duh. Is this even a question?
Notable Themes, Elements, and Tropes:
- Plus Size FMC
- Forced Proximity
- Vampires & Vampire Hunters
- Murder Mystery
- Mic Drop Plot Reveals
- Mental Health and Experiencing Loss & Grief

Made it to the middle of chapter 3.
First 3 chapters are a mess. It felt like the author was throwing drama at the reader to see if something would stick. Not for me.
