Beautiful story, makes you think about life and family and what’s important

The first portion of this book was fantastic. I loved the style of it and the world created. I got really into it and felt for the characters. At a certain point, though, it took a leap that somehow left me behind and I couldn't reconnect with the characters. One of the primary relationships was never quite fleshed out enough for me to get. The rest of it was still good, but I felt more detached from it. Still one of the more complex and quality reads I've had in awhile.

Delicious showstopping never been done before fantastic lifechanging. This has flavors of demon copperhead grounded in groff’s fabulous magical reality.  So. So. Good. Literally just no way to describe it. I love this woman so much. Bit will stay in my heart for so long

Gorgeously written and thought provoking but ultimately, for me, unsatisfying.

A very good book, overall from Lauren Groff. I read Fates & Furies before this, and loved it. I didn't love this one as much, and it took me longer to get sucked into the plot. I did love the way it spanned a lifetime though, the commune perspective through the eyes of a child was interesting. Definitely worth a look.

The prose of this novel are absolutely beautiful and fluid. The characters (and there are quite a few) are fleshed out and each have distinct personalities.

I loved walking through Bit's life, from childhood until he is fifty-years-old.

But I was disappointed with the end section. It was a bit slow, and certain elements were thrown about that I didn't think fit with the rest of the theme of the book.

Great story, great characters, and despite the ending, still a good read.
