I bought my copy of the sentence at Louise Erdich's bookstore, Birchbark Books. It was incredibly fun to visit the bookstore as it centered Native American, First Nations, andd BIPOC authors. What a lovely curation it was too! I could have bought and read everything because everything in there was interesting. It was so much fun to read this book while living in the neighborhoods where everything in the book supposedly takes place too.

You wouldn't think Minneapolis would have so much drama, would you? It was interesting to read about a Native American family and to see the murder of George Floyd through the eyes of a Minnesota Native American. I thought the characterization of the members of this Native American family were very well drawn out. Everyone felt real.

I think this would be the perfect book to share with an older white woman who can't face the reality of a hard-hitting anti-racist title. This book could gently teach, and it does exactly that.

Probably closer to 4.5 stars. I loved that Erdrich was able to cover current events like the police killing of George Floyd and the beginning of COVID, but at times it felt so busy that some of the other main story points got lost, including the big reveal with Flora’s history and ghost.
